Nightguards

Every effort has been made to provide you with the most comfortable appliance to meet your specific treatment needs.

Proper care and maintenance by you at home will help to ensure that the appliance will continue to function properly and to minimize the deterioration of its excellent properties.

How to care for your Nightguard

Nightguards are specially designed mouthguards to protect your teeth from grinding or jaw clenching during your sleep.

Your appliance has been recommended because you are either aware that you grind or clench your teeth, or there are clinical signs of damage due to these abnormal function or habits.

Caring for your Nightguard

  • Soften the appliance in hot tap water for one minute before use.
  • Keep appliance in the container provided when not in use.
  • To clean, hold the appliance in the palm of your hand and gently brush the surface. Harden with cold water before cleaning.
  • Removal of the night guard is best achieved by using equal pressure on both sides of your mouth. This will minimize the chance of damage.
  • Removal of mineral deposits is best done by soaking the night guard in a solution of 1 tsp vinegar in half a cup of warm water for fifteen minutes. Follow point 3 above.
  • Your appliance will show signs of wear over time. The extent and rate of wear will depend on the amount of force applied.
  • In normal use the appearance may vary from clear to mildly opaque.
  • Do not soak in ammoniated cleaners, bleach, alcohol based cleaners or mouthwash.
