Dr. Kim graduated with first class honours from McGill University (2002), majoring in Honours Biochemistry. Following this, Dr. Kim pursued his special interest in research by obtaining a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Pharmacology from University of Toronto (2004), where he investigated the role of genetics in nicotine addiction. He served as a principal investigator on a research project and presented his findings at international conferences including the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) in 2004 where he was a selected oral presenter. He received numerous fellowships and funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) for his project and his thesis was published in 2004. Dr. Kim then returned to McGill University to pursue studies in dentistry and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) Degree in 2008. During his studies, he received the Oral B Laboratories Dental Undergraduate Scholarship (2007) from Dentistry Canada Fund for outstanding academic achievement. He has recently completed a general practice residency program at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, affiliated with Cornell University. Here he worked as a hospital resident dentist, managing medically compromised patients and performing emergency oral surgery procedures. He has special interests in prosthodontics, endodontics and oral surgery.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Dr. Kim grew up in West Vancouver and graduated from West Vancouver High School in 1998 where he obtained the International Baccalaureate Diploma. He is a seasoned piano performer and also enjoys oil/acrylic painting. He is also fluent in Korean and has a working knowledge of French.
